Preparations were underway to arrange for Led Zeppelin to undertake a North American tour in 1980 to support the band’s then latest release In Through The Out Door. Tickets were printed for several of the proposed 1980 shows (Chicago, Detroit, and Landover). A full page ticket order form advertisement was placed in several city area newspapers (Buffalo, Chicago, Cleveland, and Detroit) where concerts were scheduled to be performed. Fans eagerly awaited in Chicago on September 25th for the Tribune to be delivered to various locations so they could complete and submit the ticket order form and obtain tickets for Led Zeppelin’s return to the Windy City. Sadly as the newspapers were being delivered news broke that John Bonham had passed away. The 1980 tour was cancelled and on December 4th, Led Zeppelin announced that they could not continue as they were.
Some fans were able to complete the mail order form and submit payment to receive tickets, and refunds had to be given to those individuals. The above form letter was mailed out with the returned funds, with mentions of various other events that were taking place at Chicago Stadium.
